On Tuesday 10 May, Piramidón Centro de Arte Contemporáneo inaugurated “Africa”, a solo exhibition by the former resident artist Khalid El Bekay (Casablanca, 1966). The exhibition is made up of the artist’s most recent works, in which an evolutionary leap in his pictorial career can be observed. Through the use of recurrent elements and techniques in his artistic production, the artist represents for the first time the human being in his environment.
In the words of the art critic Raquel Medina: “The whole is of a manifest expressiveness in which this human being stands out, treated in different ways, either as monochrome watercolour spots or with variegated tones, thus expressing the differences between the poor and the more affluent classes”.
