From their studio in Brooklyn, Sungazer projects a futuristic jazz that draws from the past and looks toward the future. Some define it as a synthesis of old-school fusion with nu-jazz sounds, while others simply call it electro-jazz. The truth is that both are probably right, as albums like Perihelion (2021), their third, prove that bassist – and influential YouTuber – Adam Neely (also in charge of synthesizers and guitar) and drummer Shawn Crowder (also handling electronic percussion) take their project as more than just a fun experiment. It’s a testing ground where they push their teachings to the limit, playing with electronic funk and even video game music, in a surprising and magnetic offering.
