IAAC/Fab Lab launches the ENSEMBLE network with the conference “Producing (in) Common”

On October 16 and 17, 2025, the Fab Lab Barcelona at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) will host the official launch of ENSEMBLE, a network of over 25 productive and collaborative spaces rethinking local production through new creative, social, and technological perspectives.

The event, titled “Producing (in) Common”, will coincide with Barcelona Design Week and feature talks, debates, and a collective exhibition open to the public.

Over two days, professionals, institutions, and creative communities will gather in Poblenou to explore how production spaces —Fab Labs, makerspaces, fabrication ateneus, industrial coworkings, and craft centers— can serve as civic platforms linking industrial heritage with new forms of local making.

The first day (October 16) will include the international conference “Making (in) Commons”, organized in collaboration with the Distributed Design Platform (DDP), featuring speakers from OpenDot Foundation (Milan), the European Craft Alliance, and the Center for Creativity (Slovenia). In the afternoon, the official presentation of the ENSEMBLE Network will take place, followed by two discussion panels addressing the right to make and spaces for creative experimentation in the productive city.
Participants will include representatives from BIT Habitat, TMDC, AKASHA Hub, Hangar, Makers Zone BCN, Fab Casa del Mig, and Tornen les Esquelles, among others.

On October 17, the event will continue with a demo-exhibition at Fab Lab Barcelona, showcasing prototypes and projects of social, cultural, and technological innovation developed by members of the network.

The event is organized by IAAC and Fab Lab Barcelona, with the support of the European project PENCE (Power Europe Narrative for Civic Ecology), funded by the European Union (Grant Agreement No. 101147563).
