HAUS opens 2026 with “La sorpresa. Algunos proyectos de Roberto Jacoby”

HAUS launches its 2026 exhibition programme with La sorpresa. Algunos proyectos de Roberto Jacoby, the first exhibition of the year at BAU’s space for art and contemporary practices. Presented by BAR project, the exhibition offers an overview of the career of the multifaceted Argentine artist Roberto Jacoby, a key figure in conceptual and action-based art in Latin America.

Curated by Santiago Villanueva, the exhibition brings together three significant works —Fotos 2016 (2016), Darkroom (2002) and Body Art (1988)— that encapsulate the performative, dissident and radically contemporary nature of his practice. Through these works, the project traces a temporal journey across a career that began in 1960s Buenos Aires, within a rebellious and avant-garde context that deeply shaped his production.

The selected works highlight Jacoby’s creative drive to build an alternative, empowered and visionary Buenos Aires scene, positioning art at the intersection of aesthetic experimentation and the invention of new ways of life. His practice, halfway between celebration and research, has radically challenged the limits of art, shifting it towards the media, performance, writing and collective forms of organisation.

On this occasion, BAR project collaborates with EX space in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, establishing a dialogue with the exhibition “El cocoliche en la epopeya. Formas de la inmadurez entre Buenos Aires y Barcelona (1932–2025)”, also curated by Villanueva.

Throughout his career, Jacoby has presented his work at institutions such as MALBA – Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires and the Museo Reina Sofía, and has participated in biennials including Lyon, Pontevedra and Mercosur, among others. In 2002 he received a Guggenheim Fellowship and has been awarded in Argentina by the Fondo Nacional de las Artes for his lifetime achievement.
