“Un gran fracàs” the new exhibition by Gonçal Sobrer at the Can Framis Museum

The “Fundació Vila Casas” presents “Un gran fracàs” (A Great Failure) at the “Museu Can Framis”, a profound exhibition dedicated to the career of artist Gonçal Sobrer. The showcase is inspired by a life path marked by unexpected turns and risky actions, where Sobrer embraces the possibility of personal failure not as a defeat, but as a libertarian choice. This radically free vital stance is what has allowed him to expose and denounce the collective failure of our contemporary society with relentless lucidity.

This retrospective brings together nearly two hundred pieces, many of them previously unseen or little known by the general public, tracing his production from the 1960s to the present day. While offering a global vision of his career, the exhibition pays special attention to his work over the last three decades, a period in which his voice has established itself as one of the most unique in our artistic landscape.

Sobrer’s work is a multidisciplinary tapestry that voices its critique through painting, objects, installations, happenings, and performance, while also maintaining a close relationship with theater, photography, and film. This entire creative universe stems from a critical and situated perspective, almost always rooted in Poblenou. His neighborhood becomes a mythologized and transfigured space—a powerful political metaphor where the local is projected with universal strength.
