“WE, KIN NOT FAM” is the title chosen by second-year BAU students curating this exhibition, which embodies new ways of relating to one another and showcases their latest academic projects.
As every year, second-year students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts are organizing and curating their collective exhibition, which explores the resignification of the concept of “kinship.” Titled WE, KIN NOT FAM, the exhibition will open on Friday, May 22, at the Granada building.
Inspired by the words of Donna Haraway, first formulated in 2016 — “Make kin, not babies” — the students have worked around the idea of connections that transcend blood relations. The works propose relational scenarios that encompass friendship, bonds with nature and animals, and interactions between internet users, evoking feelings we associate with fraternity but which, at their core, form the universal basis of all bonds, whether human or non-human.
The exhibition WE, KIN NOT FAM, which will also feature works by invited first-year students from the same degree program, opens on Friday, May 22 at 6:00 PM and will remain open to the public until June 2, concluding with a finissage on the same day at 7:00 PM.
