DESCRIPTION:Limiting Puerto Rico’s musical identity to reggaeton means missing out on much of the island’s soundscape. While the success of artists like Bad Bunny and Tainy takes center stage\, the soundtrack of this Caribbean corner is also shaped by other projects that spread Puerto Rican culture even in exile. This is the case of The Marías\, led by María Zardoya\, a Puerto Rican who found her ideal collaborators in Los Angeles to blend the psychedelic flow of Khruangbin\, the melodic instincts of Kali Uchis\, the laid-back groove of TOPS\, and Cuco’s DIY charm\, creating a final mix that captures all the warmth of the Californian golden hour. \nThe music of Josh Conway\, Jesse Perlman\, Edward James\, Gabe Steiner\, and Zardoya as The Marías could be tagged with many labels (psycho-soul\, bedroom funk\, lounge pop?)\, yet it would still be hard to define. This mystery is precisely what’s making their project resonate more with each step. DESCRIPTION:Martin Kohlstedt is a German pianist\, composer\, and producer whose dazzling creations offer a contemporary approach to blending classical music with avant-garde styles. He has collaborated with artists such as Christian Löffler\, Peter Broderick\, Douglas Dare\, and Sudan Archives\, and has released six albums—the latest being “Feld” (2023)—as well as over a dozen singles\, EPs\, and thirteen soundtracks\, the most recent being “Grace” (2020). Before launching his solo career\, he studied multimedia art at Bauhaus University Weimar and pursued studies in jazz piano\, while also working as an electronic music producer. \nIn his live performances\, Martin primarily uses grand and upright pianos in combination with a Fender Rhodes and various synthesizers. As a point of reference\, in a review of his London stage debut\, The Daily Telegraph noted that “his repetitive patterns and modal harmonies sometimes evoke music often described as hypnotic\, ranging from Ryuichi Sakamoto to Einaudi.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore information and tickets here.
