The Guatemalan artist Gaby Moreno embodies a global and Pan-American concept of music like few others, drawing from blues, jazz, soul, and R&B, as well as border sounds, boleros, joropos, calypso, tropicalismo, and singer-songwriter traditions. A prime example of this was the extraordinary ¡Spangled! (2019), an album where she skillfully navigated English, Spanish, and Portuguese, alongside the legendary arranger and composer Van Dyke Parks and the equally iconic Jackson Browne, creating a monumental tribute to the richness of Latin American music. Alegoría (2022), her seventh album, followed a similar path, but it’s the outstanding Dusk (2024), her most recent work, that undoubtedly elevates her as an artist of immense versatility, masterfully bridging genres like folk and blues (in English) with a prowess few can achieve.
