The Black Halos began their journey in the underground punk scene of Vancouver in 1994. Their raw, gritty take on ’70s punk quickly set them apart from the grunge wave, catching the attention of Sub Pop, who signed them after witnessing one of their incendiary live performances. Shortly after, they released their debut album, and a year later, they recorded the seminal The Violent Years, which firmly placed them on the map as one of the defining punk rock records of the early 21st century—now a cult classic.
This 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the band’s formation, and they plan to celebrate in style. They’re reissuing their first two albums in deluxe vinyl editions and performing The Violent Years in full, starting with their explosive set at the Azkena Rock Festival, and now with a full-scale tour. As Turmix once said, “All punk must rock, all rock must punk.”
