The Urban Talks by Poblenou Urban District have become a meeting point focused on how culture and creativity can transform the territory. On Saturday, October 4, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Disseny Hub Barcelona will host the 9th edition of the Urban Talks at Espai A.
In this ninth edition, in collaboration with Conexiones Creativas and La Plataforma, the Urban Talks aim to create a space for dialogue between professionals and the public, exploring different perspectives on art, creativity, and their role in Creative Districts.
The three talks will be moderated by Paula Trujillo, Strategy Director at Conexiones Creativas.
This edition will feature Mar López-Pinto and Jordi Solsona, founders of the Gargar Festival; Sergi Arbusà, founder of Penique Productions; Blanca Haddad, poet and painter; and Claudia Leitão, Secretary of Creative Economy of Brazil. They will discuss how artistic interventions can activate memory, resist homogenization, and negotiate identities in territories, avoiding becoming tools of purely aesthetic urbanism.
Claudia Costa, Creative Director of Poblenou Urban District; Elisabet Parés, founder of Palo Santo; Felipe Dias, Secretary of Creative Economy of Salvador (Brazil); and María Paula Giraldo, from the Creative District of Marinilla (Colombia), will discuss strategies to promote and strengthen creative districts through three case studies. They will explore governance models, the need to establish public-private partnerships, and the development of resilient ecosystems.
Maria Teresa Fernandez, Project Lead – Metadistricts, Universidad Viña del Mar (Chile); Vicente Ruiz, creative director; and Thiago Pilloni, Manager of Creative Districts and Monitoring, Prefeitura de Salvador (Brazil), will debate whether cultural development can avoid becoming a tool of exclusion. This roundtable addresses the most systemic challenge of creative districts: their paradoxical role as accelerators of gentrification.
Urban Talks are free to attend until venue capacity is reached.
