Cap Butaca Buida in the Creative District

The second edition of Cap Butaca Buida, taking place next Saturday, March 22, will offer 80,000 seats in more than 200 theatres with the goal of filling every venue across the territory and highlighting the role of the performing arts.

Under the slogan “El Teatre T’Omple,” Cap Butaca Buida aims to turn next Saturday, March 22, into a festive yet activist day that helps consolidate the Diada del Teatre, emphasizing above all the transformative power of the performing arts.

Here’s the programme for the theatres in the Poblenou Creative District on March 22, with the goal of ensuring there’s not a single empty seat:

Teatre Nacional de Catalunya:

Humanhood Company, directed and choreographed by Júlia Robert and Rudi Cole.

What does it feel like to be moved by the formless infinite? {INFINIT} invites us on a powerful and mystical journey through a combination of dance and meditation. This performance is part of the Dansa Metropolitana festival.

Written by Carles Mallol and directed by Ester Villamor.

A story behind bars about a woman imprisoned for allegedly assaulting a police officer during a protest, who will try to color the prison red and change the mindset of the other inmates through her commitment to social struggles and feminism. The play also offers a chance to discover the theatrical side of Rosa Maria Arquimbau, one of the most thrilling Catalan writers of the second third of the 20th century.

HOTEL Col·lectiu escènic, written and directed by Jordi Oriol.

Didn’t you see the “do not disturb” sign at the entrance? A witty and ironic dance-theatre piece. This performance is part of the Dansa Metropolitana festival.

Sala Beckett:

Written and directed by Roser Vilajosana Sesé.

From a textbook love story to a breakup handbook. A dramatic comedy of life lessons. This piece presents a delicately woven story with humor — a tribute to the first heartbreak. A journey through the key moments of a breakup over time.

Written by Pau Miró, directed by Toni Casares.

A story about the need to believe in small utopias in today’s Barcelona.

Last year, during its first edition, Cap Butaca Buida gathered 55,583 spectators in just one Saturday, reaching an average occupancy rate of over 92%. This was an all-time record for theatre attendance in Catalonia. This year’s goal is to break that record and reinforce the importance of the performing arts and collective identity through culture.
