July program at La Escocesa

This July, La Escocesa hosts two public events that invite us to rethink the role of culture in times of crisis and to reconnect with craft practices rooted in proximity and collectivity. Two open invitations to reflect, create, and share from a place of resistance and care.

In a context of escalating violence of genocide in Palestine,  La Escocesa opens a new space and time to meet and insist on the ¡Ceasefire now!

On Friday July 11 the the Palestinian curator and researcher Manar Idrissi, current resident of the TEJA network, will share part of her research on the systematic destruction of Palestinian cultural spaces and works of art by Israel. A process of historical erasure that, at the same time, opens the possibility of thinking about these attacks as scenarios from which to imagine new forms of resistance.

To end the meeting,  enjoy a musical performance by Palestinian-Irish duo Rahim رحم, while there will be tasty snacks by Mohammad Alsharqawi. Because despite the destruction, Palestinian culture is still alive in music, art, poetry and community building.

During the event, funds will be raised to support the Palestinian people through the TEJA network, a cultural solidarity network that supports artists and cultural professionals in emergency situations and through which artistic residencies for people from Palestine are being funded.

Program

From 18:00 h to 19:30h — Workshop with Manar Idrissi

Analyzing artworks lost during the genocide, Manar reveals how colonial violence targets culture, while Palestinian memory transforms fragments of loss into acts of rebellion. Her talk concludes with collaborative exercises in which these lost artworks are reimagined as living archives of resilience.

From 19:30 h to 20:30h — Musical set by Palestinian-Irish duo Rahim رحم  and pica pica of Palestinian snacks by Mohammad Alsharqawi.

There will be rice, wheat and corn-based dishes, plus mutabal, hummus, muhammara, salad, bread with zaatar and olive oil, and walnut and pistachio baklawa.
