LCI Barcelona Campus Wins the Versailles Prize for Best Campus

The LCI Barcelona Campus, designed by architects Ivan Serrano and Fernando Ansorena of Circular Studio, has been awarded the Versailles Prize for Best Campus at the 11th edition of the awards, held in Paris on December 4.

The Poblenou building is set within a context shaped by the transformation of former industrial spaces into new academic and creative uses. Circular Studio defines the building as a “vertical campus,” a university model in which circulation plays a central role as a social space. Staircases, voids, and galleries connect the different areas of the building, encouraging interaction between disciplines and turning everyday movement into an architectural resource. This strategy optimizes the use of space and fosters a more dynamic and collaborative academic experience.

One of the most notable elements of the project is its façade: designed with a sawtooth geometry, it controls the entry of natural light by blocking direct sunlight and enhancing indirect, even illumination, thereby improving interior comfort and energy efficiency.

The Versailles Prize recognition reinforces the role of the LCI Barcelona Campus as a benchmark in contemporary educational architecture and consolidates Circular Studio’s track record in developing projects that combine formal innovation, environmental efficiency, and urban commitment.
