The work Echo by Lúa Coderech, head of studies of the Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and Bau teacher, Julia Múgica, Lluís Nacenta and Iván Paz has won the ARCO/Beep prize for Electronic Art. This prestigious international contemporary art fair was held in Madrid from 23 to 27 February.
The jury has highlighted how through a “posthuman” object (made of upholstered wood and synthetic hair) a contemporary reformulation of the Greek myth of the nymph Echo has been made. Next to it is a small stool that enables interaction with the public.
The authors affirm that the piece functions as “a body among bodies” and points to the difficulties of communication and the search for meaning. “It poses an allegory of our need to find correspondence”, they explain.
Echo was presented at Dilalica, a gallery that develops a collaborative curatorial practice that manifests itself in exhibition formats, books and web, during this season’s Barcelona Gallery Weekend, and has landed at ARCO by the hand of àngels Barcelona, a gallery that focuses on the debate on culture and contemporary artistic practices. The event has positively valued the fact that behind this collaborative work there is the work of four artists and two galleries.
The ARCO/Beep prize promotes research, production and exhibition of art linked to new technologies and electronic art.
