March and April at the TNC: Dance, classics, and stage revolution

The Teatre Nacional de Catalunya presents a program for the months of March and April that highlights the variety and creativity of the performing arts: dance, reinterpretations of classics, contemporary creation, and new stage formats. Here are the upcoming premieres:

Èdip & Antígona: El retorn de Carlota Subirós

Based on Èdip rei, Èdip a Colonos, and Antígona by Sophocles. A free and contemporary version of Sophocles’ tragedies. Following the success of La plaça del Diamant, Carlota Subirós returns to the “Sala Gran” with a choral cast of 13 performers. Dates: April 22 to May 31 (Sala Gran).

La Cordero i el seu exèrcit: L’apocalipsi de Sol Picó

Pure dance. Sol Picó closes her personal trilogy with a grotesque and kitsch production. The piece builds bridges between antagonistic worlds, blending classical ballet and flamenco. Part of the Dansa Metropolitana festival.

Dates: March 13 to 15 (Sala Gran).

Giovanni’s Room: Identitat i pressió social

Eline Arbo adapts James Baldwin’s classic novel. The piece explores themes of sexuality, internalized homophobia, and social pressure, asking: can you ever feel at home if you aren’t allowed to be yourself?

Dates: March 20 to 22 (Sala Gran).

La Reme i jo: El surrealisme de Remedios Varo

Part of the 365 Dones l’any series, this piece rescues the stories of influential women overlooked by history, focusing on painter Remedios Varo and her blend of science and mysticism.

Dates: March 21 and 22 (El Born. Museu d’Història de Barcelona).

Festival ZIP: El sentit de l’humor a examen

Five days dedicated to new stage formats. Various companies (such as ATRESBANDES or Glòria Ribera) explore the multiple faces of humor as a universal phenomenon.

Dates: March 25 to 29 (TNC).

El sonall: Un museu de l’oblit

An immersive experience by Projecte Ingenu that invites younger generations to imagine a world without a past in order to build a future with memory.

Dates: April 9 to 26 (Taller de pintura).

Batecs: El silenci del dol gestacional

Three stories of women navigating pregnancy loss and grief. A play that breaks the silence surrounding loss, ethics, and loneliness during different stages of pregnancy.

Dates: April 16 to May 3 (Sala Tallers).

Inestable: La bellesa de la imperfecció

A proposal by Lali Ayguadé that champions reality without filters or makeup, using movement to experience a deeper beauty through fragility.

Dates: Until March 15 (Sala Tallers).
