Materials not only surround us — they define us. The way we use them, value them, and discard them shapes our environment and determines the economic, social, and cultural model we live in. But what does this mean for a design professional when it comes to bringing a project to life? What challenges, dilemmas, and lessons arise in the process?
As part of the exhibition Matter Matters. Dissenyar amb el món,, this MASTERTalk at DHub aims to foster a critical and forward-thinking perspective on the challenges posed by matter in design and the opportunities to transform our relationship with them. Materials have shaped our past and present, but are undoubtedly key to reimagining the future.
This round table brings together designers and experts to analyze experiences and address the challenges involved in the material selection process — from technical constraints to economic, social, and environmental implications. We’ll also explore their cultural, ethical, and political dimensions, questioning the values and narratives that surround materials, and examining how models such as circular economy, degrowth, and frugal innovation are redefining materiality.

Àlex Jiménez, director of Nutcreatives and SURU
Ana Villagordo, environmentalist and consultant in communication and environmental strategy
