This Saturday, September 20, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., marks the first Dissabte de Vermut of the season at Piramidón Centre d’Art Contemporani with the opening of Ádám Dóra’s solo exhibition “I paint what I d̶o̶n̶’̶t̶ want to see.”
Dóra’s painting focuses on the representation of banal yet familiar, everyday objects that inevitably surround our lives. The title “I paint what I ̶d̶o̶n̶’̶t̶ want to see” refers to the famous phrase by artist Philip Guston, who broke away from abstract expressionism and its solemnity to return to figuration, depicting his tangible world and thus dignifying the representation of the ordinary object.
Dóra picks up Guston’s thread, but in his case, the objects he incorporates into his works are not only tangible but also mediated: fast food, headphones, or gym weights are consumed (in every sense) daily through social media and advertising, forming a cartography of contemporary life. However, this is not a critique of consumer society but rather a representation. In line with this, Dóra uses the physicality of painting to portray these objects on canvas as “slow time”—both in creation and contemplation—reclaiming their value and appealing to the analog as an act of resistance.
In addition to the opening, the new group exhibition “2025_N4” will also be on view, featuring works by the resident artists. There will also be the opportunity to visit some of the artists’ studios, where visitors can learn firsthand about their work and creative processes.
On September 20 at 1 p.m., Ádám Dóra will give a guided tour of his exhibition.
