Experience the Cybersyn in Action at DHub

Disseny Hub Barcelona has inaugurated “Cybersyn in Action”, the first functional and interactive reconstruction of the Cybersyn operations room. This initiative is part of the exhibition “How to Design a Revolution: The Chilean Path to Design”, and it will be open until November 16.

The room, conceived by Salvador Allende during his presidency in Chile (1970–1973), was intended to enable collaborative, real-time economic management through a pioneering cybernetic system developed by an interdisciplinary team led by Stafford Beer. The project only reached the pilot phase before the coup d’état. The reconstruction at DHub, validated by the original designers, recreates a 72 m² hexagonal room equipped with seats, control buttons, and screens—just as it was envisioned in the 1970s.

Visitors can interact directly with the room, pressing buttons and exploring industrial data in real time. Guided tours, held in Catalan, Spanish, or English, will be available in small groups on Thursdays, Fridays, and selected Sundays until November 16.

This installation is part of the broader exhibition “How to Design a Revolution: The Chilean Path to Design,” which gathers around 250 pieces of graphic and industrial design from the Allende era, including tools to fight hunger and elements aimed at democratizing access to reading and popular music. Curated by Hugo Palmarola, Eden Medina, and Pedro Ignacio Alonso, the exhibition presents design as a tool for social and political transformation, connecting historical legacy with today’s challenges of democracy and technology.

The “Cybersyn in Action” activity, free with reservation, is led by the Lumbre Migrante collective and seeks to foster an immersive experience that encourages reflection on how collective and participatory intelligence could be applied to current socio-economic decision-making.
