L\u2019Auditori<\/strong> <\/a>presents the launch of the 25\u201326 season<\/strong> “Renaixements”<\/em>\u00a0with V\u00edctor Medem<\/strong> already serving as the new director of the venue, and Maestro Ludovic Morlot<\/strong>, principal conductor of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Medem-Morlot tandem will also take on the opening concert,<\/strong> which will be held on October 3rd<\/strong> and is dedicated to Beethoven\u2019s Ninth Symphony<\/em><\/strong>, conducted by Morlot himself and featuring the voices of soprano Joyce El-Khoury \u2014 making her debut at L’Auditori and with the Orfe\u00f3 Catal\u00e0.<\/p>\n

“Renaixements”<\/em> is a season that invites us to explore new beginnings, ruptures, and transformations that have marked the history of music and humanity. Social transformations, new technological developments, access to knowledge, conflicts, migration and climate crises, and the exchanges inherent to globalization have all driven artistic and aesthetic rethinking over time, gifting us with iconic compositions that will be heard throughout this season across the different concert series at L\u2019Auditori.<\/p>\n

\n

THE MUSIC THAT CHANGED THE COURSE OF HISTORY<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 25\u201326 season, the fourth with Ludovic Morlot leading the OBC, will open with Beethoven\u2019s Ninth Symphony<\/strong>, a revolutionary Romantic piece that opened a new aesthetic world, grounded in a freer idea of the artist in relation to form and concept. The season will also feature works such as Dvo\u0159\u00e1k\u2019s New World Symphony<\/strong>, a farewell to old Europe, and Bart\u00f3k\u2019s popular Concerto for Orchestra<\/strong>, written shortly after he arrived in the U.S. fleeing WWII. It will also pay tribute to figures like Pau Casals, Conxita Badia, and Josep Valls i Royo, artists marked by exile and the pursuit of peace far from home.<\/p>\n

The season will also dive into repertoire that broke new ground, such as the monumental love stories of Messiaen\u2019s Turangal\u00eela-Symphonie<\/strong>, Berlioz\u2019s Symphonie fantastique<\/strong>, or Bernstein\u2019s West Side Story<\/strong>, among many others. It will highlight bold innovators of their time like Sch\u00f6nberg, Mahler, Debussy,<\/strong> and Gershwin<\/strong>, who all drove new waves of artistic and aesthetic rethinking.<\/p>\n

\n

BANDA MUNICIPAL DE BARCELONA: 140 YEARS OF MUSIC<\/strong><\/p>\n

Next season marks the 140th anniversary<\/strong> of the Barcelona Municipal Band<\/strong>, a major milestone. Among the celebrations, L\u2019Auditori has commissioned new works from prominent Catalan composers \u2014 Elisenda F\u00e0bregas, Albert Guinovart, H\u00e8ctor Parra,<\/strong> and Marc Tim\u00f3n<\/strong> \u2014 written specially for the occasion and to be premiered by the Band itself in Sala 1 Pau Casals<\/strong>. A commemorative concert<\/strong> is also planned for March 1, 2026<\/strong>, featuring, for the first time in history, the Escolania de Montserrat<\/strong>, and a premiere by Parra.<\/p>\n
