L’Auditori opens a new festive season with a Christmas programme designed for all audiences, offering around ten concerts scheduled between December and early January. The traditional Christmas Concert, the New Year’s Concert, the final performances by the OBC, and a wide range of family, chamber, jazz and pop proposals shape this year’s line-up.
The Barcelona Municipal Band will be one of the main highlights of the season with two concerts specially prepared for the occasion. The Christmas Concert, taking place on 14 December and conducted by José R. Pascual-Vilaplana, will feature a distinctly festive repertoire with works by Salvador Brotons and the band première of Glòria by Albert Guinovart. The evening will also include soprano Maria Hinojosa and the Bruckner Barcelona and Madrigal choirs.
The same ensemble will bid farewell to the year on 28 December with the traditional New Year’s Concert, conducted by Beatriz Fernández, who will revisit emblematic melodies from the classical repertoire. The performance, created in collaboration with the theatre company Els Pirates, will include excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake and Eugene Onegin, as well as the much-loved waltzes of Johann Strauss Jr. and the overture to Die Fledermaus.
Meanwhile, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC) will present its final two concerts of 2025. The first will be dedicated to American music, featuring works by Bernstein and Dvořák under the baton of Ludovic Morlot, with cellist Pablo Ferrández as soloist (12 and 13 December). The second will close the year with Elgar’s Cello Concerto, performed by Kian Soltani and conducted by Jakub Przybycień, in a programme that will also include Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10.
The Sit Back cycle will conclude 2025 with the première of Paradís, the new album by Mallorcan singer Júlia Colom (11 December). Jazz will also take centre stage one last time thanks to Senegalese musician and composer Momi Maiga, who will perform on 16 December as part of the Barcelona Jazz Festival. In addition, the Quartet Gerhard will offer a chamber music concert on 18 December.
In the family-friendly programme, L’Auditori brings back one of the classics of its Educational Project: Els colors del metall (27 and 28 December), a show aimed at children aged two and over. It will also première Música en Dansa (10 January), a new concert for audiences aged five and above that blends music and movement, featuring students from the Institut del Teatre’s Professional Dance Conservatory and the JONC. The project will be accompanied by an exhibition of illustrations by artist Sònia Alins.
This Christmas, L’Auditori also celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Canta Gran project, a participatory concert aimed at older audiences. On 22 December, nearly 500 singers will perform A la ciutat, composed by Carles Prat with lyrics by Stefanie Kremser, a piece that narrates the transformation of an old farmhouse into a vibrant metropolis.
Regarding collaborations with public broadcasters, L’Auditori’s resident ensembles will once again take centre stage in the Christmas programming. 3Cat will broadcast the OBC’s season-opening concert, featuring Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, on 25 and 26 December. Betevé will air the Municipal Band’s Christmas Concert, recorded on 14 December.
Finally, L’Auditori strengthens its Christmas promotions with gift cards worth €30 and €50, redeemable for season tickets, as well as special advantages such as the family pass, which offers savings of up to 40 %, and the T3 and T10 cards, which accumulate progressive discounts.
