L’Auditori and the OBC combine Berlioz’s delirium with the virtuosity of Ravel and Anna Vinnitskaya

L’Auditori invites us to a sublime program that flows between the evolution of French Romanticism and the great challenges of 20th-century piano repertoire. This exceptional proposal comes to life through the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra (OBC), which, under the baton of Louis Langrée, will take us on a journey of unique artistic intensity.

The evening will open with the overture to Hector Berlioz’s Les Francs-Juges, his first orchestral foray. This piece already reveals the composer’s genius through dramatic contrasts, haunting passages, and moments of grand symphonic brilliance.

The program continues with Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand in D, a masterpiece composed for pianist Paul Wittgenstein after he lost an arm in World War I. Performed by the renowned Anna Vinnitskaya, the piece tests the soloist’s technique and expressiveness, exploring unusual textures and a subtle dialogue with the orchestra in a perfect blend of virtuosity and emotion.

The concert reaches its climax with Berlioz’s celebrated Symphonie fantastique. Inspired by the composer’s obsessive love for actress Harriet Smithson, the work transports the listener to a world of extreme passions where the Romantic imagination runs wild in a constant search for beauty and delirium.

This event at L’Auditori is part of the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Ricard Viñes’ birth, celebrating the legacy of a pianistic and orchestral tradition that the Catalan musician helped consolidate worldwide.

Dates: February 27th, 28th, and March 1st.

Venue: L’Auditori de Barcelona.
