The work Viatge d’hivern, inspired by Franz Schubert’s Winterreise song cycles, is a journey that Elfriede Jelinek proposes to us through her own experiences, both artistic and intimate: sexuality mediated by the internet, the perversion of public opinion , the cult of youth, the presence of latent fascism, the inexorable passage of time, the love-hate towards her mother, the dementia and abandonment of her father and the self-criticism of herself as an artist.
Awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2004, the author presents us with a research work where language, music and movement burst onto the scene like a runaway river, perverting Schubert, perverting Jelinek, dragging us through “the residual waters of our own lives. ” just as she does, in a piece with dramatic brushstrokes, a lot of irony and a certain despair.
