Artec Studio will transform Plaça Catalunya with a poetic light installation for Christmas

This Christmas, Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona will become a stage for artistic and luminous expression thanks to the intervention by Artec Studio, a key participant in the municipal programme “Barcelona Christmas Lights 2025.” The studio, led by Maurici Ginés, has been selected to create one of the five lighting installations that will illuminate the city during the festive season.

Artec Studio, an international benchmark in lighting design, presents a proposal that blends artistic sensitivity with technical innovation. The installation is a choreography of light that simulates birds flying in heart-shaped formations, using 2025 suspended dichroic elements that interact with natural daylight and are activated by high-efficiency LEDs at night.

Their concept creates an immersive visual and sensory experience, designed to be explored from multiple perspectives and to emotionally engage with visitors. With reflections that shift from gold to red depending on the viewer’s position, Artec Studio transforms the urban landscape into a fairytale setting, faithful to the Christmas spirit.

The project has been developed with a strong environmental commitment: the use of recyclable materials and the reuse of existing infrastructures ensure a respectful intervention that integrates with the plaza’s everyday dynamics.

This initiative, driven by the Barcelona City Council in collaboration with ADI-FAD, highlights the value of signature design and positions Artec Studio as the true protagonist of a project that connects the city with light, visual poetry, and sustainability. Through this installation, Artec’s talent and vision are reaffirmed as a key force in the transformation of Barcelona’s public space during the holidays.
