THE KOREAN ART OF CERAMIC STAMP DECORATION With Corrie Bain

2 Saturdays: 5th and 12th of July 2014 – 12 hours

“Korean ceramics is renowned for the beautiful and innovative style of “Buncheong” ware which was made during the 15th century Joseon Period. It is known for the dynamic approach of using hand-made stamps and slip inlay techniques applied to the surface of ceramic pieces to create vivacious and carefree designs”

Objective:

This course will introduce you to the many possibilities of traditional Korean stamping techniques through demonstrations and practical studio work.

You will learn to carve your own stamps and apply them to the clay surface, then use slip inlay techniques to create intricate and visually powerful forms.

Program:

Day 1: 10h to 16h

  • Brief introduction to the history of Korean ceramics and stamping techniques
  • Carve your own stamps (to be bisque-fired and use on day 2)
  • Application of stamping using studio’s stamps

Day 2: 10h to 16h

  • Introduction and demonstration
  • Application of your own stamps and slip inlay techniques  on flat and curved pieces (bowls, cups and tiles previously prepared by the studio)

No previous experience needed

Price: 120 € ,

10am to 4 pm:  12 hours total

All included:  Materials and firings

Lunch break of 1h (you can bring your sandwiches – we will offer you soft drinks and coffee!)

Your finished items will be fired by ElTornBarcelona and you will be informed when to pick them up. When abroad, shipping can be arranged (shipping costs apply).
