Wednesday, September 11 at 12:00 PM – ESBART CIUTAT COMTAL – EN5D: Traditional dance and music
Don’t miss the opening performance of the popular culture series in the “ateneos”. L’Esbart Ciutat Comptal presents EN5D, a show with live music by the band “Criatures”. As if it were our own heart, the most organic part of music, pulse, will drive the show. It is in this vital part where the rhythms and beats that evoke the traditional Catalan dance originate.
A reinterpretation of tradition where music and dance intertwine in a narration where the rhythm guides us from start to end. Points, lines, circles form a polyhedric shape in which all elements fit together in perfect harmony and conjunction. A “Contrapás”, a “Bolangera”, a “Ball pla”, a “Farandola”, a “Sardana”, a “Corranda”… a dimension in which the movement of the body and the different patterns of Catalan dance fit together with the melody and rhythm as they were shapes in a kaleidoscope. Dance, music, light, space, sensations, five dimensions, one contemporary view of our roots.
Thursday, September 12 at 8:00pm – Banda Municipal de Barcelona
The Barcelona Municipal Band (1886) is an essential institution for understanding the history of music in Catalonia. Its role has gone beyond organizing concerts and participating in official events; it has been a guarantor of musical dissemination, bringing some of the greatest works in history to its music stands. The driving force behind the band’s success was Joan Lamote de Grignon, who gave it an artistic personality and turned it into an internationally renowned ensemble. Even Richard Strauss conducted the band nearly a century ago.
In 2007, the band’s project took a major step forward, as it became the resident ensemble of the Auditori de Barcelona, initiating a stable concert season in collaboration with key local and international artists and ensembles. Ten years later, in 2017, the band was invited to the **Wasbe Conference** in Utrecht and the **World Music Concert (WMC)** in Kerkrade, Netherlands, where the band reaffirmed its status as an international reference.
Additionally, the band is committed to making music accessible to vulnerable communities through concerts and activities organized with ApropaCultura. Today, the Barcelona Municipal Band is a socially engaged group, in tune with its time, and an active protagonist in Barcelona’s musical scene.

Sunday, September 15 at 6:30 PM – HAVANERES WITH PORT BO
The Port Bo group was founded in 1966 in Calella de Palafrugell to mark the presentation of the book *Calella de Palafrugell i les havaneres*. The original trio, composed of Josep Xicoira, Carles Mir, and Ernest Morató, was often accompanied on piano by maestro Frederic Sirés, who composed the popular havanera “La gavina.” The group, along with other lovers of the genre, initiated the havanera singing tradition in Calella de Palafrugell, participating in all its editions.
In 2022, Lluís Bofill (second voice and guitar) and Xavi Jonama (bass voice) took over from Irineu “Mineu” Ferrer and Carles Casanovas (who continues as musical director) and, together with Pep Nadal, they carry on the group’s mission to continue this popular genre, bringing to the stage the songs originally sung in taverns, now accompanied by new tunes that maintain the style of their ancestors.
Saturday, September 21 at 8:00 PM – HITCHCOCK “THE COMEDY”
Isidre works at a cinema where an ad for “McGuffin, XIII Intrigue Short Film Festival” is being shown. On the same screen, the master of suspense, Alfred Hitchcock, appears and suggests that Isidre enter the short film competition, offering to help him make the film.
Directed by Hitchcock, Isidre and his girlfriend Lili (although she cannot see him) will film a short, using the old techniques of Hitchcock’s films. It will all be shot in a single studio, inside the cinema where Isidre works, except for finding famous actors known as “cameos” in cinema, which will give the short film a touch of distinction. They will have to go out and find these actors, coming up with the most absurd reasons to get them to participate.
