The Museu Terra of the Fundació Carulla will open a temporary exhibition this Friday, 16 October, at the Sala Barcelona del Museu Terra, entitled Tros de dona. The exhibition highlights the role of women throughout history and the need to move towards a future based on shared care responsibilities.
Curated by Anna Maria Andevert, this in-house exhibition stems from a research project initiated by the Museu Terra and carried out by Catalina Gayà Morlà, Judith Ruiz Crosas and Laia Seró Moreno. The project puts at the forefront the women who, throughout history, have sustained life through essential tasks that have often remained invisible and undervalued. The research revealed that work associated with production has featured more prominently in historical narratives than tasks related to caring for people and the environment. For this reason, Tros de dona proposes broadening this perspective and recognising the value of these experiences, from education and healthcare to emotional relationships and domestic life.
The project arrives in Barcelona with a proposal adapted to the context of Poblenou. Around sixty women from the neighbourhood have shared their experiences to bring new perspectives to the project, in dialogue with the experiences of women from the Conca de Barberà region. In this way, the exhibition explores how two territories with different realities share experiences, challenges and ways of understanding the role of women in sustaining life.
The exhibition also incorporates the perspectives of younger generations to reflect on how young women build their identities, imagine their futures and navigate the realities around them. It therefore offers a reflection that goes beyond recovering historical memory, inviting visitors to reconsider how care responsibilities are distributed and how to move towards a future in which they are more equally shared. The exhibition is structured around four themes (home, street, body and land) and combines pieces from the Museu Terra collection with art installations, photographs, sculptures and video art.
First presented in 2024 at the Museu Terra in l’Espluga de Francolí, Tros de dona received the El Temps de les Arts Award in the Heritage category. Now, its arrival in Poblenou invites visitors to revisit historical narratives from a perspective that recognises women’s contributions and champions care as an essential collective responsibility.
