The Teatre Nacional de Catalunya closes a season marked by its commitment to culture and its dedication to public service.

The Teatre Nacional de Catalunya closes its 2025–2026 season reaffirming its commitment to Catalan playwriting, combining classical and contemporary authorship with great names from the universal repertoire. With a plural perspective dedicated especially to women and in constant dialogue with other artistic disciplines, the lineup showcased an ambitious proposal of 32 productions, 22 of which were signed by Catalan creators.

Beyond its Barcelona venue, public service has once again been one of the main pillars of its activity. Regional tours brought the house’s productions and co-productions to theaters across the region, expanding the reach of its repertoire and boosting the circulation of performing arts in Catalan. This effort was complemented by the work of the Educational and Social Service, accessibility initiatives, and a wide array of parallel activities.

On the international stage, the institution consolidated its European presence through co-productions and strategic partnerships with other venues. A key element of this international outreach was its ongoing participation in the Union des Théâtres de l’Europe (UTE), highlighted by the UTE Academy project: a creation laboratory where European artists collaboratively explore how to reinterpret classics from a contemporary perspective.

Regarding audience numbers, the season wrapped up with an average occupancy rate of 76% and a total of 117,811 spectators. Particularly notable was the younger audience demographic, with one in four attendees under the age of 35. In parallel, the commitment to inclusivity was reflected in 9 adapted shows featuring audio description, Catalan subtitling, individual hearing loops, amplified sound, and pre-show touch tours, as well as 5 performances subtitled in English.

This marks the conclusion of a theatrical season defined by the promotion of local creation, a commitment to public service, and an ever-closer connection with the community.
