Concert for the peace at L’Auditori

The Barcelona Municipal Band stands for global peace by performing ‘The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace’ by Karl Jenkins

January 19th at 11:00 AM

In the current international context of war, the Barcelona Municipal Band (BMB) contributes its part and joins the call for global peace this Sunday, January 19. Under the baton of José R. Pascual-Vilaplana, the principal conductor of the ensemble, they will perform The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, a work that advocates for unity among all men and women, with the aim of awakening humanity from the senselessness of war.

The Band will be accompanied by four vocal ensembles – Coral Cantiga, Coral Sant Jordi, Coral Sinera, and Cor Jove de la Coral Sant Jordi – students of voice from the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu, and Moroccan musician and singer Mohamed Soulimane, who will perform the Islamic tradition fragments included in the work.

Adding to the emotional power of the pacifist score is the impact of the images that will be projected in Sala 1 Pau Casals of L’Auditori during the concert. These images capture some of the most poignant and painful moments of contemporary conflicts, such as World War II (concentration camps, the Hiroshima bombing, warring armies), 9/11 in New York, various conflicts in the Middle East, and the migration crisis on the European Mediterranean coasts.
