Next Friday, April 17, organist Montserrat Torrent will turn 100 years old, and it is precisely around this date that three of the main events of the Montserrat Torrent Year have been scheduled, an official commemoration by the Government of Catalonia aimed at promoting her figure and legacy.
On April 15 at 8:00 PM, the concert of the organ cycle at Barcelona Cathedral will be dedicated to her, performed by her student Susana García Lastra. The concert has free admission until full capacity is reached.
On the very day of Montserrat Torrent’s 100th birthday, Friday, April 17, the exhibition “Montserrat Torrent. A punt d’orgue” will be inaugurated at the Music Museum, and it will be open to visitors until October. The opening event will be open to the public and will take place at 7:00 PM.
The following day, April 18, the Palau de la Música Catalana will host a tribute concert featuring around twenty organists, students, and admirers of Torrent, who will travel from across Europe for the occasion.
Additionally, until May 25 (open daily from 9:30 AM to 7:45 PM), the exhibition “Montserrat Torrent. One hundred years, a lifetime” remains open at Casa de l’Almoina (Pla de la Seu, 7), part of the Diocesan Museum of Barcelona.
