The new edition of Urban Talks on November 5th at Disseny Hub Barcelona

On Saturday 5th of November, we are going to host the 5th edition of Urban Talks.

Urban Talks of Poblenou Urban District are back! a round of conversations that has the purpose of triggering a debate amongst citizens on how culture and creativity relate to their urban environment. An event organized by Poblenou Urban District, the contemporary art gallery and production studio La Plataforma, the creative agency Life In The Woods and with Disseny Hub Barcelona as the venue partner.

Urban Talks are a perfect opportunity to incite a dialogue about art, heritage, economy, technology and sustainability with professionals who, due to their outstanding activity in these fields, help us foresee an optimistic future for our cities.

In this fifth edition and subsequent to the exploration of themes such as the territory transformation through art and creativity, the impact of cultural industries, the mutation of territories and the actors of urban transformation, they return now under the title “post-spaces” to debate in three talks the spatial limits of culture, of what remains outside the walls and is yet to be defined. To do so, we will revisit the figure of the curator, analyze the post-mediatic space and dialogue about the decentralization of the new crypto-cooperatives blooming in the art world.

The access to the Urban Talks is free of charge until capacity is reached.

TALK #1 / Schedule 11am

WEB3 – Creative autonomy?

Since the appearance of Duchamp, contemporary art has been living in the world of “intentions”. Art appreciation ceased to be restricted by a compendium of techniques and canonical aesthetic evaluations; we moved from the era of objectivity to subjectivity, and that maxim “if someone says it’s an artwork, then it must be” was never so indisputable. Let’s face it: we would all have wanted to tape that banana together with duct tape and, for sure, each and every one of us wouldn’t mind selling a .jpg for a small fortune. The world of crypto-art and the NFTs have been revolutionizing the contemporary art world for some years now without, it seems, altering the premise of subjectivity established by Dadaism. But what is true and what is false? Is there more to it than speculation

and buyers flaunting wallets that brimm with cryptocurrencies? This conversation will address the possibilities and futures of WEB3 within the art world, far from the big headlines and astronomical sales, we will talk about the real possibilities towards its decentralization and what is yet to come.

Participants #TALK 1:
Frankie Pizá (Moderator) ⟶ Sabrina Bonini (Founder of Cripto EsCultura) ⟶ Isabelita Virtual (Creative Director)

TALK #2 / Schedule 12:00h

Post-medios: Conversation with ‘la nueva carne’

Before the Internet and the media revolution, judgment was found in books and print media; now, the collapse of the ethos and attention spans has expanded the idea that a valid opinion can be found anywhere. A Twitter account of an acquaintance or an Instagram profile where a meme matches our thoughts is enough for the average person. But there is still a small niche that believes in prestige and not for that reason placed behind modernity: ‘la nueva carne’ is an analogue magazine that awakens critical thinking and strives to “make humans aware of the mutations set off by the digital era”. A concept that acknowledges a latent need by recurring to an out-of-the-ordinary execution: thick paper for reflections on the intangible.

Participants #TALK 2: Frankie Pizá (Moderator) ⟶ Samuel Valiente (Editor of ‘la nueva carne’)

TALK #3 / Schedule 1pm Curators in context

The figure of the curator has become even stronger than before with the digital age ontogenesis, the Internet and the creative economy; if we are all capable of creating, distributing and capitalizing (whether with money or attention), the need for filters and curators to order and interpret what is generated around us is fundamental. But is the role of a curator nowadays? To raise awareness, to disrupt, to expand, to romanticize? There are many ways to apply prescription through times in which creative and artistic exposure happen simultaneously on the physical, territorial and digital plane.

Participants #TALK 3: Frankie Pizá (Moderator) ⟶ Jorge Rodríguez Gerada (Artist and curator) ⟶ Enrique Radigales (Artist and curator)
