New season of L’Auditori 3r MOVIMENT: MORT O RETORN

Get ready to live the new 22-23 season of L’Auditori

El 3r moviment: Mort o Retorn will bring to a close an artistic story articulated in three seasons that began with Creació (2020-21), continued with Amor i Odi (2021-22) and will end with this last episode that will place the listener in the inevitable end, exploring different approaches to death.

The OBC begins a new phase in which it will have Ludovic Morlot as principal conductor for the next four years. Marta Gardolińska will accompany him as principal guest conductor and cellist and conductor Nicolas Altstaedt will be added as guest artist.

Sarah Connolly, Andreas Ottensamer, Matthias Pintscher, Juanjo Mena, Jorg Widmann, Heidi Melton, Vasily Petrenko, Emmanuel Pahud, Javier Perianes, Alina Ibragimova, Anja Bihlmaier, Bertrand Chamayou or Narek Hakhnazaryan, among many other artists, will allow us to enjoy such as Strauss’ Death and Transfiguration, Mozart’s Requiem, Mahler’s Fifth, Sixth and Kindertotenlieder, Rakhmaninov’s Island of the Dead, Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms or Dvořak’s The Witch at Noon. In addition, the third edition of the Festival Mozart Nit de Verano will bring us closer to the great titles of the Salzburg composer.

The Barcelona Municipal Band will also have its season in the great hall with sixteen programs that will include four requiems: the Urban Requiem by Michael Colgrass, the requiems by Davis Maslanka and John Rutter and A requiem for Brussels by Bert Appermont, as well as works closely linked to the Band, such as Death and Transfiguration by Richard Strauss. Once again, the band led by José R. Pascual-Vilaplana will present concerts that will highlight the value of the original repertoire for this instrument.

The program of Música Antiga will include four projects of the cycle El So Original, led by Jordi Savall with his ensembles, and the Festival Llums d’Antiga will once again illuminate Barcelona’s medieval churches with music.

Chamber Music will kick off the season with the second edition of the Barcelona Quartet Biennial, curated by the Quartet Casals. And the young talents of music will once again have their space with the Festival Emergents Barcelona, four days among which stands out, once again this year, a free Chamber Marathon of eight concerts in Hall 2 Oriol Martorell.

In the programming of modern music and multidisciplinary creation, the artistic proposal will focus on the exploitation of new languages that will provide new avant-garde visions. In this sense, it is worth mentioning names such as Arnau Obiols, Brutter, Jakob Bro and Arve Henriksen, Thomas Stronen, Jamie Branch and two large ensembles, the Barcelona Art Orchestra and the one led by Toni Vaquer. In addition to Sandra Monfort, Low, Jon Hopkins, Niño de Elche or b1n0, who will be accompanied by artists such as Tarta Relena, Ferran Palau or El Petit de Cal Eril. The Scenes will work on the topic that defines the programming of the new season with Constanza Brncic, Aurora Bauzà and Pere Jou, and Sara Fontán and Sònia Gómez. As for the Sampler Series, the cyclical idea of existence, of eternal return, will lead us to discover, for example, creators such as Maryanne Amacher, precursor of psychoacoustic phenomena, or Éliane Radigue, a reference in electronics.

Regarding the Educational Project, in addition to some of the classic shows of the house, it is worth mentioning the premiere of the new show Monstres, which is inspired by the mythologies of different cultures around monsters.
