Organised by Poblenou Urban District in collaboration with Disseny Hub Barcelona, the Urban Talks celebrate their tenth edition with a day of conversations on the transformation of the territory through art, creativity and technology, taking place during the AR-DE weekend.
Since their first edition, these gatherings have created a space to share experiences, bring different perspectives together and reflect on the changing nature of the places we inhabit. A platform open to professionals and the general public to exchange ideas, discover other realities and spark new conversations about the city and its contexts.
For this tenth edition, the event will bring together different voices to explore the relationships between artistic practices, public space, community and new creative contexts in a programme curated by Jordi Pallarès, curator, lecturer and researcher specialising in cultural mediation and contemporary artistic practices.
On Saturday morning, Urban Talks will open with (Im)balance of artistic practices in public space, a conversation about the role of art in public space, the opportunities it offers and the challenges of intervening in places that are part of the city’s everyday life. This will be followed by Transformations in the territory through experience, which will focus on how art and culture can foster new relationships with the territory, engage communities and help transform the places where they unfold.
At midday, a networking lunch for professionals will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and build connections between artists, cultural professionals, managers and other participants.
The afternoon will continue with Art migrations in Barcelona’s ecosystem, exploring how art moves throughout the city, the spaces and contexts that host it, and the new forms of creation, production and circulation emerging across Barcelona.
In the final part of the day, Venezuelan artist and cultural manager Julio Loaiza will present his career and some of his projects, including the artistic incubator and residency programme Macolla Creativa, sharing his approach to understanding art and culture as tools for creation and transformation. His presentation will culminate in a performance by the artist himself, bringing Urban Talks to a close. The event is also part of AR-DE, a gathering that brings together a range of initiatives and spaces connected to art, design and creativity in Poblenou.
