Organised by Poblenou Urban District in collaboration with Disseny Hub Barcelona, Urban Talks celebrates its tenth edition with a day of conversations exploring the transformation of territory through art, creativity and technology, that will take place the same weekend as AR-DE.
Since its first edition, these gatherings have created a space to share experiences, bring different perspectives together and reflect on the changing nature of the places we inhabit. An open platform for professionals and the general public to exchange ideas, discover other realities and spark new conversations about the city and its contexts.
For its tenth edition, the programme will bring together different voices to explore the transformations taking place across the territory from diverse perspectives, while examining the relationships between artistic practices, public space, community and new contexts for creation. The programme will be curated and moderated by Jordi Pallarès, curator, lecturer and researcher specialising in cultural mediation and contemporary artistic practices.
On Saturday morning, Urban Talks will open with (Im)balance of Artistic Practices in Public Space, a conversation about the role of art in public space, the possibilities it offers and the challenges involved in intervening in places that are part of everyday urban life. This will be followed by Transformations in Territory through Experience, focusing on how art and culture can create new relationships with territory, activate communities and contribute to transforming the places where they take place.
At midday, a professionals’ gathering and lunch will offer a pause to exchange ideas and build connections between artists, cultural professionals, managers and other participants.
The afternoon will continue with Migrations of Art in Barcelona’s Ecosystem, exploring how art moves through the city, the spaces and contexts that host it, and the new forms of creation, production and circulation emerging across Barcelona.
In the final part of the day, Venezuelan artist and cultural manager Julio Loaiza will present his practice and some of his projects, including the artistic incubator and residency programme Macolla Creativa, sharing his approach to art and culture as tools for creation and transformation. His presentation will culminate in a performance by the artist himself, bringing Urban Talks to a close as part of AR-DE, an event that brings together a range of proposals and spaces connected to art, design and creativity in Poblenou.
