Load Gallery presents Mirror Into Auntieverse at Sónar+D 2026
On June 18 and 19, Load Galley will present at Sónar+D, Mirror Into Auntieverse, the first interactive installation by Singaporean artistniceaunties,expanding the experience of her current exhibition, auntiescapes, within the festival’s programming.
The installation explores the relation ship between the body, technology, and cultural memory through a 19th-century Napoleon III mirror that incorporates motion capture and real-time rendering. When standing in front of the piece, the visitor’s reflection disappears to make way for the protagonists of the Auntieverse, the universe created by niceaunties using artificial intelligence, which reinterprets the archetype of the Asian “auntie” from a new perspective, away from traditional stereotypes.
Furthermore, as part of the “Beyond the Screen” program, niceauties returns to Barcelona following the opening of her exhibition at Load to deliver the lecture «Auntiescapes: Reframing Culture, Body and Landscape through AI», which will take place on Thursday, June 18, from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., at the Stage+D venue (Llotja de Mar).
Sónar+D will be held on June 18 and 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., consolidating itself as one of the main international gatherings dedicated to creativity, innovation, and emerging technologies.
