Arts Cruïlla 2026| 8 to 11 of July

The Cruïlla Festival returns from July 8 to 11, and in this 16th edition it strengthens its connection with Barcelona through the slogan “Cruïlla is home”. For this reason, art is not just an addition, but an experience that inhabits every corner of the festival and gives a voice to local talent.
ARTS Cruïlla will create an artistic circuit within the festival that combines tradition and contemporaneity, with the participation of Poblenou Urban District and La Plataforma as curators of the artistic proposal. The installations, created by artists linked to La Plataforma, will bring a sense of neighborhood and community, turning the festival into a shared home.

The mural is centred on the image of a young alien girl eating an ice cream. The piece presents a vision of the woman of the future: free, curious and open to endless possibilities. The scene conveys a spontaneous, carefree and confident attitude towards the world. From this image, the artwork invites viewers to imagine new ways of exploring, inhabiting and reinterpreting reality—fearlessly, with an open mind towards change and what is yet to come.

Vale Wilson is an illustrator with more than ten years of experience in textile design for globally recognised brands. Her personal practice spans illustration, painting, murals and tattooing. At a time when housing has become a central issue in the debate about our cities, the artwork invites viewers to reflect on what it truly means to feel at home. The central structure can be understood as a shelter, a stage, or a boundary, creating a meeting place where the idea of home extends beyond a physical location and becomes a shared experience.

This mural is inspired by the Lilliput chapter of Gulliver’s Travels, reinterpreting the story through a contemporary, dreamlike imagination. The composition depicts a small sleeping mouse during the festival, immersed in a dream where proportions are reversed: she becomes a giant figure while everything around her shrinks to a miniature scale.

Plain Jein is a muralist, illustrator and graphic designer born and raised in Barcelona. For the past nine years, she has been active as a graffiti writer, although over the last three years she has focused primarily on mural art, bringing her distinctive illustrations and imaginative worlds to the city’s walls. Her work gives voice to social issues through a perspective infused with humour and pop culture references, aiming to challenge and/or comfort the viewer.

The artwork captures an intimate, everyday moment of domestic life, offering a space for pause and contemplation. Its silhouettes and the strong contrast between light and shadow create a composition that can be clearly read from a distance, while closer viewing reveals additional painterly layers. Birds and plants evoke ideas of home, belonging, diversity and play.

Habiting the Fragment takes the idea of home and sets it in motion: a living space that is never truly finished. Through abstract shapes and colours inspired by the Mediterranean, the installation unfolds in suspended fabrics that occupy the space and allow it to breathe. The wind activates every element, causing the work to change continuously, as if the house were being built in real time. Rather than a fixed place, the home becomes a landscape in constant transformation.

Sònia Toneu studied Art History, Graphic Design and Arts Management, and holds a Master’s degree in Artistic Practices. She also trained at Escola Massana in Barcelona and the Open University of Catalonia, where she completed her studies in the arts. Through painting, installation and digital media, she explores abstraction and creates new worlds that invite us to see reality from a different perspective.

Sònia Toneu is represented by La Plataforma, a contemporary art gallery and creative production studio. The gallery collaborates with national and international artists, providing a space dedicated to the promotion and dissemination of contemporary art. It has also participated in the curatorial process and artist selection for this edition of Cruïlla Arts.

In this work, the idea of home is dismantled and expanded: it ceases to be an enclosed space and becomes an open, boundless surface. Aleix Font’s project begins with the grid as its starting point: a symbol of order and structure, but also of playfulness and spontaneity. From there, he creates open, inhabitable spaces that invite visitors to enter and make them their own, with installations that are also shaped by the gaze of those who experience them.

Aleix Font is an artist who explores space, emptiness, boundaries and identity. Through compositions that balance minimalism and complexity, he investigates the tension between chaos and structure, the individual and the collective, inviting viewers to question how we inhabit space and construct meaning.

In Simbiosi, Aymar explores the idea of home as a space that moves and transforms. Two structures, one made of wood and the other of iron, merge and coexist as if they were two houses sharing the same space. The work speaks of coexistence, hybridity, and the ways we inhabit the city. Two houses that coexist, fit together, and transform one another.

Ricard Aymar is an artist whose practice focuses primarily on sculpture, drawing, and photography. His works, reflecting great sensitivity and an evocative poetic language, create a universe in which the artist navigates a dreamlike world, decontextualizing figures and relocating them to create “non-places” where he reflects on existence.
